Burr-Brown Corporation (NASDAQ:BBRC) has announced the PCM1600, a high performance, six-channel audio DAC (digital-to-analog converter) featuring 24-bit resolution and 96kHz sampling rate for use in a wide variety of multichannel audio applications such as DVD.The PCM1600 contains six 24-bit, 96kHz, 105dB dynamic range audio DACs combined together on a single monolithic integrated circuit. The device is optimized for DVD players, AV receivers, HDTV receivers, car audio systems, multichannel home theatre systems, surround-sound processors, and digital mixing consoles.""The integration, performance, and price offered by the PCM1600 is exactly what audio system designers have been waiting for,"" said Mike Centorino, Audio Product Marketing Manager at Burr-Brown.The PCM1600 utilizes Burr-Brown's proprietary ""Enhanced Multi-Level Delta-Sigma"" modulator technology to achieve excellent audio dynamic performance and reduced jitter sensitivity in actual applications. This highly integrated device features 105dB dynamic range and -96dB THD+N on each of its six channels. The internal digital filter operates at 8x oversampling with two selectable roll-off performances: sharp roll-off or slow roll-off. The digital filter offers -82dB stopband attenuation and ±0.002dB passband ripple.Functions of the PCM1600 include digital attenuation, mute, and zero flag for each channel. The device accepts industry-standard audio data formats (16/18/20/24-bit audio data) and can be used with 256, 384, 512, or 768fs system clocks. The PCM1600 processes up to 24 bits internally and has single-ended analog outputs, thus reducing the amount of external components needed. It operates on dual +3.3V and +5V power supplies. The PCM1600 is priced from $8.95 in 1,000 piece quantities and is packaged in a 48-lead LQFP. Delivery is from stock.Source: Burr-Brown.com
