Marantz Debuts Next-Generation High-Resolution Digital Widescreen Plasma Monitor

Marantz America has announced the introduction of its PD-4290D Digital Widescreen Plasma Monitor, upgraded from its award-winning PD-4280 with improved display technology and added features. The high-resolution Marantz PD-4290D is a 42-inch widescreen 1.78:1 (16:9) television monitor which uses flat panel plasma technology to produce an image with breathtaking clarity, brightness, contrast and color purity in a display only 3-inch inches deep. The PD-4290D is DTV-ready, compatible with NTSC, PAL and SECAM formats, and displays a line-doubled image from an NTSC source or a progressive scan image from a DVD-video player, DTV converter or computer. Its ultra-thin depth allows installation options never before possible, such as hanging on a wall or placement where conventional TVs cannot be accommodated, and its elegant metallic gold finish blends easily into any dÈcor. The Marantz PD-4290Dís superlative picture quality places it at the forefront of high-resolution plasma TV monitors. Its newly improved plasma display produces a picture with 60 percent greater brightness and 50 percent greater contrast over a 160-degree viewing angle, with improved color accuracy for purer, more lifelike colors. The PD-4290ís state-of-the-art display and advanced digital image processing circuitry eliminate the deficiencies which plague other plasma TVs, such as pixelization, poor contrast, low brightness and objectionable digital video artifacts. The PD-4290D operates in either native progressive scan or (line-doubled mode) depending on the signal source, displaying a progressive scan image from a DVD-video player, DTV set-top converter or computer, or a or a line-doubled image from any NTSC source. The PD-4290D is compatible with 480p, 1080i and 720p formats, has a native resolution capability of 853x480 pixels and can display images from a computer up to XGA resolution. The PD-4290D will also scale to 640 x 480 resolution when required. The PD-4290D includes component, S-video, composite and RGB video inputs for total connection flexibility and the best possible image quality from DVD, satellite broadcast and other high-resolution video sources. The PD-4290D is also Windows 95/98 Plug and Play compatible and Macintosh compatible. It includes an RGB input for direct connection to a computer, making it ideal for computer game playing, multimedia and graphics presentations as well as TV viewing. For maximum viewing flexibility, the PD-4290D provides four aspect ratio modes - Normal, Wide, Full and Stadium. Because plasma TV does not use electron beams, as conventional CRT displays do, the PD-4290D is impervious to magnetic fields, allowing placement in close proximity to any type of loudspeaker or electronics with no possibility of image distortion. All key functions as well as video and audio adjustments are easily accessible via the PD-4290Dís improved seven-language on-screen menu, which is accessed using the supplied Marantz RC2000 Mk II Programmable Learning Remote Control. The RC2000 Mk II can also learn the codes of every component in an A/V system for total system control. The Marantz PD-4290D carries a suggested retail price of $13,999.99. An optional WB-4000 wall mount is available at a suggested retail price of $450.00. The PD-4290D will be shipping October 1999.
