A new Aiwa home DVD-Video player has been added to the companyís expanding DVD product line, which now includes an Aiwa DVD unit to suit virtually any application. The new Aiwa XD-DV290 DVD-Video player joins a portable model and a mini system with built-in DVD changer to provide consumers with a wide range of DVD options. See Todayís News, October 13.Aiwaís new home player includes a full complement of performance and convenience features to get the most out of the DVD format. These include a 96kHz/24-bit Delta-Sigma D/A audio converter and both optical and coaxial DolbyÆ Digital/DTSÆ/PCM audio outputs to take full advantage of the formatís 5.1-channel soundtracks. For those not yet ready for a five- or six-speaker set-up, the player offers Spatializer N-2-2ô virtual surround sound that provides the effects of multichannel playback from just two stereo speakers or headphones.To handle the video signal there are component video, S-video and composite video outputs. A 10-bit D/A converter handles video conversion.Convenience features include 4X and 16X zoom, 2X and 26X search, and forward and reverse slow play at 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 and 1/10 normal speed. Function and feature selection is simplified through the use of an on-screen graphically oriented menu operated using the remote control, plus a multiple language on-screen display.The new Aiwa DVD-Video player is black with a center-mounted titanium-colored disc drawer. It measures 17-inch (W) X 3-5/8-inch (H) X 11-5/8-inch (D) and weighs 7.7 pounds. The XD-DV290 will be available in December at a suggested retail price of $400.00.Aiwaís other DVD products include the XD-DW1 portable DVD-Video player with a 5.8-inch active matrix color thin film transistor display, and the XR-DV5 mini audio system with built-in three-disc DVD changer.
