MPAAís Rating System

November 1, 1998 marked the 30th Anniversary of the voluntary movie rating system standardized by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). The system has, for three decades, provided American families with guidance to make informed decisions about the content character of movies. Parents have found the ratings system to be useful in deciding what movies their young children should see.
