DTS Will Encode 5.1 Masters At Surround 2000 Booth

DTS (Digital Theater Systems) is placing major emphasis on the ease and affordability of encoding 5.1-channel DTS software, at the Surround 2000 Conference (at the Beverly Hilton Hotel), November 5-6. The DTS exhibit booth will include an operating workstation based around Minnetonka Audio Software's recently introduced SurCode for DTS Digital Surround, presenting conference attendees with an opportunity to experience first-hand, the DTS 5.1 encoding process. The Minnetonka SurCode has been designed to create a DTS-encoded file which can be ""burned"" onto a CD-R or CD-RW. An integral step in the production process, this disc can then serve as a master for the future replication of 5.1 Music CDs. DTS-encoded CDs and DVDs deliver high-resolution multichannel audio through any 5.1 home theatre system incorporating a DTS decoder, which is now a standard feature on most surround pre-amps and receivers. Most DVD players include a chip that can read the DTS bitstream of a DTS-encoded DVD. All DVD players on the market can output the digital data of a DTS-encoded compact disc. In addition, a DTS-encoded CD can be played on any CD, CD-ROM and/or DVD-ROM player that has a digital output connector. ""The introduction of this new Minnetonka software means that artists, engineers, and producers will now have the ability to affordably encode a true 5.1-channel DTS master,"" said Patrick Watson, Director of Technology Marketing. DTS was launched in 1993, with the Universal Picture and Amblin Entertainment theatrical release of ""Jurassic Park,"" and since then the company has remained a leader in feature film digital audio with more than 18,000 installations worldwide. DTS Consumer Products, Inc. (a subsidiary of DTS, Inc.) licenses technology to hardware and software manufacturers to create Digital SurroundĂ´ products for the home and car that are changing the way consumers listen to music recordings and movie soundtracks on compact discs, laser discs and DVD. DTS is a product of Digital Theater Systems, Inc. of Agoura Hills, California. International offices for the company are located in the United Kingdom and Japan.
