An eminent agreement between America Online and West Coast Entertainment, which recently launched online superstore Moviebuff.com, would permit AOL subscribers to connect directly to the Moviebuff.com site. West Coast is hoping the visibility gained through AOLís Digital Cities service, which provides entertainment news tailored to individual cities, will give the Moviebuff.com site expand its marketing presence and competitive market position. West Coast in October 1998 closed 25 stores and has plans to close more in 1999 in an effort to curtail reported losses and position the 400-store chain for merger or acquisition by another video retail chain. West Coast is the third-largest video retail chain with Blockbuster Video first and Hollywood Entertainment second. The newly launched Moviebuff.com site provides information on new releases and offers for sale approximately 40,000 VHS and DVD titles.
