Chat With Top Cinematographers
The American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) will host real and virtual open houses where filmmakers and fans can meet with the ASC Outstanding Achievement Award winners and nominees on February 20, 1999. The historic ASC clubhouse at 1782 North Orange Drive will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The award winners and nominees will also participate in an Internet chatroom hosted on hollywood.com. (www.hollywood.com/chat.asc) in conjunction with the ASC (www.cinematographer.com/chat) and sponsored by Kodak (www.kodak.com/go/motion, look for ""ASC Chat"" in the Spotlight) from noon to 2 p.m. (PST) originating from the clubhouse. All three websites will be linked to the chat. To join the dialogue and ask questions or follow the conversations, log on to any of the websites above. ""This is an unique opportunity to meet and speak with some of the worldís most talented filmmakers,"" says ASC President Victor J. Kemper. ""During the past several years, thousands of people from around the world, who couldnít physically attend the open house, have done the next best thing by participating in the Internet chatroom."" The ASC Outstanding Achievement Awards dinner will be held on February 21 at the Century Plaza Hotel. Widescreen Review Editor and Publisher Gary Reber and Executive Publisher Marlene Reber will be covering for the magazine. Award recipients include Vilmos Zsigmond, ASC, Lifetime Achievement Award; Giuseppe Rotunno, ASC, AIC, International Achievement Award; Robert Altman, Board of Governors Award; and Albert Mayer and Tak Miyagishima, Presidentís Award. Nominees for an ASC Outstanding Achievement Award in the feature film competition are Remi Adefarasink, BSC (Elizabeth); Richard Greatrex, BSC (Shakespeare In Love); Janusz Kaminski, ASC (Saving Private Ryan); Robert Richardson, ASC (The Horse Whisperer) and John Toll, ASC (The Thin Red Line).
