ìBugî Outtakes

Hopefully, when A Bugís Life reaches DVD and LaserDisc, the Walt Disney Co. and Pixar will include all the faux outtakes from the movie. The latest and final film reel of A Bugís Life sent out to 2,700 theatres features a different set of 13 manufactured bloopers that run for about two minutes during the closing credits. The computer-generated characters are shown as actors flubbing lines, breaking character, laughing uncontrollably, falling and bumping into props. Clapboards and boom mikes common to live-action film sets are also seen. Originally, director John Lasseterís crew came up with more than two dozen pretend outtakes, of which only about half were used on the original prints of the animated feature. But since the bloopers have been signed out by many reviewers and filmgoers as the most clever part of the movie, Pixar ordered production on the rest. Unlike bloopers of other movies that appear immediately when the credits roll, Bugís Life outtakes do not appear until well into the credits so as not to distract from Randy Newmanís closing song. Lasseter says that he hopes to creatively integrated the Bugís Life outtakes into the DVD releaseóas Pixar and Disney did with a special edition LaserDisc of Toy Storyóalong with a great deal of extra supplemental material, including a few additional outakes that did not make either theatrical version. Hopefully, Lasseterís wish will come true because Disneyís Buena Vista Home Video has yet to release any fully animated theatrical feature on DVD and no announcement has been put forth.
