EADís PowerMaster 500 ñ Shipping no On November 15

EAD has announced new 5-channel amplifier, the PowerMaster 500, which will be shipping as of November 15. This amplifier is based closely on the PowerMaster 2000 design, using the same key components, but scaled-down to provide 5 channels of exceptionally clean, robust power at a rating of: a) 108 watts (into 8 ohms), b) 150 watts (into 6 ohms), and c) 192 watts (into 4 ohms). These are conservative measurements, since the power-supply is abundant, powered by a 750 VA transformer and 100,000 mf of capacitance. However, the real key to this productís design (as with the PM2000), is the use of unique, highly specialized output ICís that achieves virtually Zero Crossover Distortion. Crossover distortion is a particularly nasty type of distortion that obliterates low-level detail and produces a harsh, transistor-type sound. In addition, crossover distortion is more destructive than clipping, because it is pervasive at all times (not just during peak passages). EADís unique design eliminates crossover distortion almost entirely. As a result, low-level detail is revealed with full fidelity while the overall sound remains natural and euphonic (no transistor sound). Essentially, this design allows the amplifier to offer ""Class A"" amplifier performance at ""Class A/B"" prices and temperatures. In addition, the specialized output ICís provide virtually perfect gain and thermal matching when compared to traditional discrete output transistors. This means performance is more stable at all loads over the entire frequency spectrum (especially low frequencies ñ due to excellent power-supply regulation). Finally, this design also protects against temperature fluctuation, short circuits and volt-age fluctuation. The PM500 is an extremely robust, powerful product. The PM500 will share the same striking, faceted finish as other EAD products. U.S. retail price for the PowerMaster 500 will be $1,595. The PM500 offers the same beautiful, faceted finishís as EADís other products and the same robust, solid build-quality.
