In response to the growing demand for an ""audiophile DVD-Video player,"" Rotel is introducing the RVD-985 DVD-Video/CD player with advanced audio and video circuitry, Dolby Digital and DTS pass-through capability.According to Michael Barlett, Rotelís Vice President & General Manager, the RVD-985 is designed for consumers who want the convenience of a single component that plays both audio and video discs with the same sonic performance they expect from a high-end CD player.""We knew we had to hit the mark sonically,"" he said, ""or the whole project would be just an exercise in futility. Thatís why we spent as much time as we did on the audio circuitry. We began with our usual care in power supply design and separated all critical elements for minimal interference. We think the RVD-985 will earn a firm place in this rapidly-growing market.""The RVD-985ís advanced multi-voltage switching power supply is fully isolated on its own circuit board. The supply function worldwide on any AC voltage from 100 to 250 and is frequency insensitive (50 or 60 Hz), thus making the RVD-985 truly world-capable. High current voltage regulators and low-ESR capacitors supply power to all circuit stages while further isolating them for minimal interference. This isolation extends to the physical placement of critical blocks as digital processing, analog video, and analog audio are all contained in physically distinct regions within the RVD-985.The die-cast optical sled supporting the laser assembly is electro-magnetically driven for precise positioning and minimal vibration.Digital audio capability includes high-speed single-bit D/A converters with 24-bit/96 kHz resolution. The following analog output stage follows Rotel tradition with precision parts in a high current configuration. Dolby Digital, DTS, and PCM datastreams are available at the optical digital output for use as required by a separate processor.Video processing was not overlooked either. A 10-bit, 27MHz video D/A converter, augmented by ""Video Fine"" capability, processes disc data for maximum resolution. ""Zoom"" and ""strobe"" functions increase enjoyment with a wide variety of source materials. Users have a choice of three video output formats: component, s-video, or composite. The RVD-985 outputs NTSC or PAL video at the touch of a rear panel switch.A full-function remote control makes menu navigation easy. ""Virtual Surround"" provides a surround-like experience, even when the RVD-985 is used in a stereo-only system. CD text capability displays a full range of information from the many recent discs containing supplemental material designed to enhance musical enjoyment.Simplified front panel controls include a shuttle dial for fast disc scans and make the RVD-985 easy to use, even for novices. A legible front panel display provides instant feedback for error free operation. The RVD 985 is now available at a suggested retail price of $699.00.
