Velodyne Acoustics Launches New Division To Market Proprietary Digital Amplification Technology

Velodyne Acoustics, Inc., the audio industryís leading developer and manufacturer of high-technology powered subwoofers, has launched a new division - Velodyne Silicon Systems (VSS) - to market its patented digital amplification technology to audio equipment manufacturers for use in mass market consumer electronics products. VSS demonstrated its revolutionary new technology during the recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, where audio equipment manufacturers from around the world met it with enthusiastic response. ""Our debut at CES validated our belief that there is a real need for high-quality, cost-competitive digital amplification technology in the consumer marketplace,"" said Velodyne Acoustics Founder and President David Hall, who also serves as President and CEO of VSS. ""Several OEMs have already expressed a keen interest in applying our technology in their products. We will be providing VSS modules to them for testing within the next 60 to 90 days. According to Bill Ciullo, VSS Vice President of Engineering, VSSí high-quality, low-distortion, cost-effective digital amplification modules will provide audio equipment manufacturers with a superior, more cost-effective design solution applicable to a wide range of products. Available in l00 watt, 250 watt, 600 watt and 1,250 watt modules, potential applications include home stereo receivers and amplifiers, mini-component and boom box systems, powered speakers for home theater/audio systems, computer speakers, car stereos, professional sound systems, set-top boxes and more. ""VSS will offer energy-efficient amplifiers at a significant cost advantage over what is currently available,"" said Ciullo. ""By eliminating several traditional components, including transformers and heat sinks, the VSS amplifier solution is smaller, lighter, more powerful, more efficient and less expensive than conventional amplifier technology. As a result, the audio technology products that manufacturers will be able to offer consumers will enjoy the same benefits."" VSS has developed its new products based on the same Class D digital amplification technology currently used by Velodyne Acoustics in the companyís highly acclaimed, low distortion subwoofers. Incorporating David Hallís patented amplification design concepts, these compact, high-powered amplifiers were first introduced by Velodyne Acoustics in 1997. ""Velodyne has been extremely successful in using this technology,"" says Hall. ""VSS modules are able to deliver full-range, true audiophile-quality sound at a price point that is lower than conventional amplifier technology. ""Velodyne has been a pioneer in advanced audio technology for over 15 years, and we have a strong record of growth and profitability,"" Hall said. ""VSSí patented technology will allow us now to move into the mass consumer marketplace.""
