DVD Empire Doubles Daily Sales Record

DVD Empire (http://www.dvdempire.com) has nearly doubled its daily dollar sales record in less than two weeks since it was set. On Tuesday, December 7, DVD Empire sold a record $88,000 worth of digital video discs online, representing a record 2,039 DVD sets including boxed sets of multiple discs (the actual single disc total is much higher due to the high number of multiple disc sets sold). The December 7 total beats DVD Empire's previous dollar sales record of $47,000 set on Monday, November 30, 1999, the first weekday after the Thanksgiving holiday by 87 percent. For the week of December 6 through 13, 1999, DVD Empire sold $297,000 worth of DVD product, up 58 percent from the same period one year ago, when sales totaled $188,000, according to DVD Empire Founder and President Jeff Rix. ""Our volume increase is testimony to the health of the online DVD retail industry,"" said Rix. ""All our sales are online, and we have avoided any 'loss-leader' promotions."" Unique among the major online DVD retailers, DVD Empire has avoided costly ""real estate"" deals with Web portals, preferring to rely on a mixture of ""Everyday Low Prices,"" guaranteed availability of overnight delivery of virtually every DVD ever issued, and a pro-active customer relations campaign. Under the ""Everyday Low Prices"" policy most DVDs are sold at 30 percent off list. For example, a $29.98 list-price DVD such as ""South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut,"" sells at DVD Empire for $20.95. Rix's strategy has paid off. DVD Empire, alone among its major competitors, has recorded a profit every quarter since it opened for business in the Spring of 1997. DVD Empire is also alone in offering cash for selected DVD titles in good condition (www.useddvdempire.com). Through a reciprocal arrangement with Huppins, the nation's largest single-store electronic hardware retailer, DVD Empire customers are only a mouse click away from bargains on high-quality hardware.
