The DVD Forum announced today that four of its authorized Verification Laboratories have released DVD-Audio verification test discs for use by DVD manufacturers.Verification laboratories for DVD-Audio were established to provide DVD-Audio verification services and to support the future market launch of DVD-Audio players and discs. Since September 1, 1999, authorized laboratories have been providing verification services at Industrial Technology Research Institute of Taiwan, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., PIONEER CORPORATION, Sony Corporation, Toshiba Corporation, Victor Company of Japan, Limited (JVC), and Warner Advanced Media Operations (WAMO).Verification Laboratories have started selling DVD audio player verification test discs as shown below.1. Audio Manager Test Disc: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.Both DVD-Audio verification test discs and the DVD-Audio disc verifier (already on sale from Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.) are necessary for the verification of DVD-Audio players and discs. The Steering Committee of DVD Forum has approved both of the testing tools. The test discs are intended to support production quality assurance and are not related to any copy protection technology implementations in DVD-Audio players or discs.Companies commercializing DVD audio products should use these testing tools before the launch of DVD-Audio players and discs and then undergo verification at one of the following laboratories to minimize compatibility problems when players and discs are brought to market. Products that successfully pass verifications are allowed to display the DVD audio logo mark as proof of compliance to DVD-Audio Specification and a sign of assurance of reliability for consumers.(Note: The DVD-Audio test discs are in full compliance with the currently available DVD-Audio format specifications (version 1.1). The version 1.1 does not cover encryption system.)
