Absolute Sound Bern Bern Bern Review

February 2, 2019

The Bern Bern Bern review is in the February 2019 issue of the Absolute Sound, a premiere audiophile magazine. The issue was mailed to subscribers about two weeks ago and is on selected newsstands.

Andrew Quint scored the performance of The BBB Featuring Bernie Dresel at 4.5 out of 5 and the recording quality a solid 5.

Andrew wrote (excerpt): "The challenge of making a recording that can contain this exceptionally dynamic music are significant, as are the rewards of listening to a fully realized jazz band project.

"Bern Bern Bern is the latest example that no big band enthusiast should miss, especially if her or she is of the audiophile persuasion...

"To call the 5.1 mix "immersive" is an understatement. The degree of dynamic impact, detail and complete intelligibility, even at the enthusiastic playback levels the material demands, is extraordinary. Actually, Gary Reber reserves the term "immersive" for the Auro-3D Native 9.1 program that, along with the other playback options was mixed and mastered at Galaxy Studios in Belgium. The 9.1 multichannel version adds four height channels to the usual six of standard surround sound ones; the Belgian facility is the best equipped place on earth for Auro-3D post -production. I've not heard this version, but if you're set up to do it, please have me over, I'll gladly bring chips and a six pack or two."
