With the introduction of its new totally flat FST? Pure? widescreen HDTV-ready at CES 2000, Toshiba offers the industryís broadest lineup of integrated HDTV and HDTV-ready TVs.""Toshibaís goal for color TV in 2000 is to lead the industry in the digital era by providing consumers with the broadest possible range of high-quality display options,"" said Scott Ramirez, Toshiba Director of Product Management. ""The introduction of our first widescreen FST Pure HDTV-ready set demonstrates how we intend to build on the success and technological superiority of our current HDTV-ready line. The common element in all our new HDTV-Ready and integrated HDTV sets, in fact, is dramatically improved picture quality, including the very best in analog as well as digital HDTV display.""Integrated HDTV Model Brings The Ultimate Digital Experience Into The HomeToshibaís integrated HDTV set, the TheaterWide HD projection Model DW65X91 65-inch widescreen set, features a built-in digital tuner that accepts all 18 ATSC formats and displays 1080i and 480p. The DW65X91 also includes a built-in DirecTV System receiver that receives both standard and high-definition DirecTV satellite programming. To provide consumers with the ultimate in flexibility and performance, all Toshiba HDTV and HDTV-ready TVs feature two sets of ColorStream HD component video inputs. This high-resolution connection is the optimum way to connect a digital playback source to a display device. ColorStream HD inputs allow viewers to enjoy true 480p resolution from DVD-Video discs (using a Toshiba DVD player equipped with ColorStream PRO progressive scan outputs) or 1080i from an HDTV set-top box (such as Toshibaís Model DST3000). The use of dual ColorStream HD inputs allows users to connect two digital sources to Toshibaís HDTV-ready models and choose between them.To provide maximum picture quality from all current and future digital signal sources, every new Toshiba HDTV-ready and integrated HDTV set includes a unique ColorStream Optimizer feature that allows users to assign each ColorStream input a different Black Level setting appropriate to the source: 7.5 IRE for DVD-Video, and 0 IRE for HDTV signals.I.D.S.C. Means Unprecedented Image QualityIn a technological tour de force that translates to unprecedented image quality, Toshiba combines its renowned digital chassis design with its proprietary I.D.S.C. (Intelligent Digital Scan Conversion) technology in its new HDTV-ready sets. I.D.S.C. automatically converts DTV signals routed through a ColorStream HD input for maximum display quality with no user configuration or set-up required. I.D.S.C. (in conjunction with Toshibaís 3D Y/C digital comb filter) automatically converts 480i signals into 480p signals by using a combination of vertical line doubling and frame doubling, and horizontal pixel doubling to achieve the highest possible resolution without motion artifacts. 480p and 1080i signals are passed through without alteration for the best possible resolution. All integrated HDTV and HDTV-ready models also include dual NTSC tuners for full compatibility with analog programming, and either a dual-tuner or MultiWindow dual-tuner PIP feature to allow simultaneous viewing of two analog programs. The Toshiba Difference: PowerFocus HD Lens System For Ultimate Picture QualityThe key to the superior picture quality of Toshibaís new TheaterWide HD projection TVs is the companyís new exclusive PowerFocus? HD lens system. Unlike conventional projection TV lens systems, PowerFocus HD utilizes wider diameter lenses in a unique six-element configuration to create a projection TV image of unprecedented clarity, brightness and color accuracy. PowerFocus HD lens systems are 65 percent sharper than standard lens systems.Operating in conjunction with the new lens system are high-performance PowerFocus HD Cathode Ray Tubes (CRTs). PowerFocus HD CRTs incorporate larger electrostatic lenses and higher beam current for reduced beam spot size and more accurate beam shape. The result is a 10 percent increase in brightness and a 25 percent increase in sharpness over conventional tubes. To maintain perfect focus at all times, Toshibaís new HDTV sets utilize the companyís new Multi-Linear Digital Focus? convergence system. With Multi-Linear Digital Focus, 168 separate convergence points (56 x 3) are set by a computer at the factory, ensuring crisp, clearly focused projection TV images. For fine-tuning, viewers can use their remote control to further adjust up to nine areas on the screen, making it easy for anyone to achieve virtually perfect corner-to-corner focus.New Projection Screens And First-Surface Mirrors Provide Brightest, Clearest PicturesWith a Toshiba TheaterWide HD projection TV, viewers are ensured the best possible picture quality at every point on the screen. To that end, all integrated HDTV models also include newly developed TheaterBright? HD projection screens. TheaterBright HD screens feature a new and improved black stripe layer for increased contrast and sharpness, helping the sets achieve a remarkable 1,600 lines of horizontal resolution. TheaterBright HD screens also feature an ultra-fine screen pitch for highest resolution and a unique Surface Level Diffuser that enhances contrast, and provides viewers with an exceptionally wide 160-degree viewing angle. Toshiba has also added a new Corner Diffuser Enhancer in its TheaterBright HD screens for increased corner brightness and more uniform brightness across the screen. All Toshibaís new HDTV and HDTV-ready projection TVs also feature a built-in TheaterShield Plus protection screen. The unique new shield builds on the companyís renowned hard-coat TheaterShield technology by adding a new anti-reflective layer for increased contrast and reduced glare, without a reduction in brightness.DST3000 HDTV Set-Top BoxThe Toshiba DST3000 HDTV set-top box features built-in NTSC, ATSC and standard and high-definition DirecTV? reception to ensure ready availability of high-definition TV programming throughout the country. The DST3000 with ColorStream HD high-resolution component video outputs sends 1080i HDTV signals to an HDTV-ready TV or standard 480i to a conventional analog TV equipped with ColorStream component connectors. This makes it possible for analog sets to also receive and decode digital signals, ensuring future compatibility with all digital TV formats. An advanced Program Guide (APG) is also included with the DTS3000, which provides information on both satellite and non-satellite channels, as well as a special function that allows caller ID information to be displayed on-screen.
