Toshiba Introduces S-VHS ET Technology In New Six-Head VCRs For 2000

Companyís New Lineup Of Ten VCRs Places Major Emphasis On Improved Image Quality

At CES 2000, Toshiba is introducing its first 6-head Hi-Fi VCRs featuring S-VHS ET technology, an advancement that allows consumers to record their favorite programs in full Super VHS resolution using standard VHS cassettes. Toshibaís two S-VHS ET models (W804 and W808) lead the companyís lineup of five six-head Hi-Fi decks, each featuring the companyís breakthrough V3 chassis/flying pre-amp design plus a host of performance and convenience features such as satellite TV recording control, image-enhancing DNR Perfect circuitry, Icon-Based On-Screen programming, and more. S-VHS ET: A Major Benefit In Picture Quality And Value Toshibaís new S-VHS ET VCRs enable consumers to enjoy high-resolution home recording without the need to purchase expensive S-VHS tapes. By combining specially designed video heads with an advanced pre-amp in a high-resolution recording system, Toshiba S-VHS VCRs are able to dramatically extend the recordable frequency range of standard VHS tapes. To record programs using the S-VHS ET system, users simply switch to the S-VHS ET recording mode. This allows them to record any program on standard VHS tape (high-grade recommended) with super-sharp, incredibly realistic S-VHS image quality and over 400 lines of resolution. ""In todayís digital era, consumers have come to expect, and indeed demand, superior picture quality from all their home theater source components,"" noted Claude Frank, Manager, Business Planning and Marketing Administration for VCR and DVD. ""Thatís why weíve made image quality the single highest priority in all our new VCRs. For those who want the ultimate in S-VHS performance, our two top-of-the-line decks provide the full 400 lines of resolution that this format allows, with the added flexibility and affordability of being able to use standard VHS cassettes. We also incorporate significant image-enhancing technologies throughout our entire lineup of six- and four-head VCRs, ensuring that the VHS format will continue to provide superb home theater enjoyment well into the 21st century."" Toshibaís Revolutionary V3 Chassis In addition to the S-VHS ET feature on the companyís two top-of-the-line decks, all five of Toshibaís new six-head Hi-Fi VCRsóincluding Models W701, W704 and W708 - utilize the revolutionary V3 chassis, with a unique flying pre-amp design for superior audio and video performance. Toshibaís six-head VCRs bring picture performance to new heights by combining the V3 chassis/flying pre-amp design with an additional pair of 19-micron heads to deliver sharper, clearer pictures in the extended play (EP) mode. In Toshiba six-head decks, EP picture quality is virtually indistinguishable from that achieved in the standard play (SP) mode. Toshiba also enhances picture quality with exclusive DNR Perfect circuitry in two new decks (W808 and W708). DNR Perfectís Digital Noise Reduction circuitry automatically scans each frame of a video individually, removing image-degrading flecks and specks (""video noise"") that often appear in well-worn rental tapes. And DNR Perfectís Color Signal Enhancement circuitry significantly improves color sharpness while reducing horizontal color bleeding. All Toshiba six-head VCRs are designed to make time-shift recording fast and hassle-free. The decks feature a special on-screen programming system with visual icons that guide users through every step of the recording process with point-and-click simplicity. Several of Toshiba new VCRs also feature satellite TV recording control, making satellite recording as simple as possible, as well as VCR Plus+C3 Æ Programming for easier and more convenient recording of cable channels using the VCR Plus system.
