Sonance Introduces In-Wall Subwoofers With New THXÆ Ultra Certification

Sonance, a leader in architectural audio, has announced its Sonance Cinema One and Cinema Two in-wall subwoofer systems. The two subwoofer systems come in pairs and with their own component amplifier. The Cinema Two subwoofer system has passed the requirements to gain THX UltraÆ approval. ""Consumers who are serious about true home audio understand the need for thumping bass capable of rocking the foundation,"" said Annette DiSano, Chief Operating Officer, Sonance. ""Sonance has created the Cinema One and Two subwoofer systems to provide todayís home theatre owner with ultimate bass that can be heard but not seen."" Both subwoofer systemís metal grille design matches the rest of the Cinema Series speakers, which include the Cinema One and Two LCR (left, center, right) and Cinema One and Two surround speakers. Cinema Two Subwoofer System (MSRP $2,500) The System Two is powered by a specially modified Sonamp 2120 amplifier, which meets THX specifications for power output. The system features a total of four THX-certified l0-inch aluminum drivers with rubber surrounds. The Cinema Two product, measuring 15 x 26 1/4 x 3 7/8 inches, is a true-in-wall subwoofer where the entire enclosure is pre-built into the wall to maintain structural integrity and provide the tightest response possible. The l-inch MDF wood back box enclosure, made with a Dacron acoustic dampening material, is ruggedly built. The modified Sonamp 2120 amplifier provides 400 watts of continuous system power and a 4th Order crossover with adjustable 50-250Hz frequency, lower frequency settings for use with in-wall or cabinet speakers. It has added controls for level adjustment, phase adjustment and crossover frequency adjustments; as well as a THX switch that automatically adjusts the output to THX specifications. The 2120 provide 381 watts RMS max output that can be delivered to both subwoofer enclosures. Cinema One Subwoofer System (MSRP $1,500) An affordable alternative, the Cinema One subwoofer system features 8-inch polypropylene drivers, with rubber surrounds. It comes with one modified Sonamp 260 amplifier, providing 250 watts, which is modified for level adjustment, phase adjustment and crossover frequency adjustments. The Sonamp 260 has a 2nd order crossover with adjustable 25-250Hz frequency and provides 250 watts RMS max output that can be delivered to both subwoofer enclosures. The Cinema One subwoofer system utilizes a separate enclosure that fits into a standard stud wall. An optional MDF enclosure is also available.
