Zenith Introduces HDTV Satellite Receiver

Zenith Electronics Corporation has unveiled its first digital high-definition television (HDTV) set-top box that receives both local terrestrial and satellite HDTV signals. The Zenith receiver, which incorporates HDTV-compatible DirecTV PLUS ô technology, premiered last week at the 2000 International Consumer Electronics Show. The flexible satellite/terrestrial decoder has a switchable output for 1080i, 720p, 480i and 480p displays, and features 16:9 (1.78:1) and 4:3 (1.33:1) aspect ratio correction. Onscreen menus use crisp bit-mapped graphics. The Zenith digital set-top box features a built-in DirecTV PLUS receiver ñ capable of receiving HDTV programming from DirecTV and digital terrestrial signals. The DirecTV-enabled set-top box, planned for fall 2000 availability, is Zenithís first digital satellite product for the U.S. market. Zenith may also incorporate DirecTV PLUS receivers with HDTV programming reception capability into future digital high definition television sets.
