As part of its efforts to promote rapid industry-wide deployment of digital television (DTV) products, Zenith Electronics Corporation demonstrated a low-cost interface for interconnection of digital devices at CES 2000.The Zenith-developed, industry-standard ATSC* Remodulator translates the output of digital devices to a digitally modulated signal compatible with the RF (radio frequency) inputs of ATSC-compliant DTV and HDTV receivers. At the 2000 International Consumer Electronics Show, Zenith demonstrated the RF remodulator with a digital satellite receiver, digital VCR, HD-DVD player, video game and digital cable box. This approach, believed to be the most consumer-friendly digital interface available, has been adopted by the Consumer Elec-tronics Association (CEA) as an industry-standard digital interface (EIA-761 and EIA-762).Zenith, which developed the digital transmission system adopted by the Federal Communications Commission as part of the ATSC DTV broadcast standard, has been selling the RF remodulator since mid 1999.The company also demonstrated its professional digital TV broadcast equipment, including ATSC modulators, demodulators and decoders, as well as the DataCaster 2000 system for broadcast data applications using the ATSC* standard.* Advanced Television Systems CommitteeAbout ZenithBased in Glenview, Illinois, Zenith is a long-time leader in electronic entertainment products and a primary developer of digital HDTV.
