Sharp Unveils Industryís First 28-Inch LCD HDTV Display

Worldwide Leader In LCD Showcases Next Generation Of Digital Display Technology With Its First 720P LCD Offering

Demonstrating its leadership in developing next-generation LCD displays, Sharp Electronics Corporation showcased the industryís first-ever 28-inch LCD high-definition display at CES 2000. The new LC-28HD1 monitor features versatile video component inputs, PC compatibility and widescreen high definition resolution, for crystal-clear viewing of a wide range of digital video sources, from DVD to PCs to high-definition television signals. Designed with Sharpís advanced LCD technology, the ultrathin LC-28HD1 provides full 720P high-definition native display resolution in a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio ñ Sharpís first offering in the 720P HDTV display arena - and measures just 38 25/32-inch (W) X 17 20/32-inch (H) X 2.3-inch (D). The LC-28HD1 will accept DTV input signals including 1080I, 720P and 480P formats in both component (YPrPb) and RGBHV. ""With the introduction of the 28-inch LCD HDTV Display Sharp is placing a stake in the ground as the leader in the high-definition LCD landscape,"" said Bob Scaglione, Associate Vice President, Marketing, Home Digital Division, Sharp Electronics Corporation. ""Sharp continues to be a world leader in the development of cutting-edge LCD technology - from our revolutionary CG-Silicon technology to our new line of LCD TV/monitors, Sharpís mission is to deliver technology to enable crystal clear digital entertainment for the new millennium."" Seamless Digital Video When displaying full-motion digital video and PC graphics, the LC-28HD1 combines high brightness of more than 400 cd/m2, high image quality and resolution (1280 X 768), a wide 160 degree horizontal X 145 degree vertical viewing angle and built-in stereo system with two side speakers. Engineered with innovative LCD technology, the unit is extremely easy to see, and provides extremely clear viewing even near windows and other bright places, offering contrast that is roughly twice that of CRT-based TVs. Sharpís Exclusive Digital Gamma Correction Circuit The LC-28HD1 utilizes Sharpís Digital Gamma Correction Circuit, which dramatically improves the quality of the images viewed on the LCD screen. This ensures improved reproduction of detail in nighttime scenes. Sharpís Digital Gamma Correction enhances picture clarity by lightening the background while maintaining the correct brightness of the subject. As a result, the viewability of an image is enhanced by maximizing background detail, making the entire image easier to view. Setting New Standards In Image Display Technology Since creating the worldís first electronic LCD calculator in 1973, Sharp has pioneered the development of cutting-edge LCD technology. Sharpís leading LCD position is embodied in the advances in the high-contrast, wide-viewing angle and large screen technologies that led to the 1987 introduction of the worldís first 14-inch TFT color LCD and 100-inch LCD video projection systems. Innovative Sharp technologies have accelerated image display development, moving the industry toward larger-sized LCD screens with more vivid colors and higher resolution - from calculators to mobile communications devices to front and rear projection LCD displays. The LC-28HD1 will be available in the fourth quarter of 2000.
