Velodyne Expands Classic Theater Series Subwoofers

Velodyne Acoustics, Inc., a leading high-technology manufacturer of powered subwoofers, has expanded their Classic Theater Series of subwoofers with another top-of-the-line model: the CT-150. The company says that the new CT-150 uses Velodyneís critically acclaimed Total System Design to produce high impact, accurate sound at a very cost-effective price point. Like all Velodyne Classic Theater Series subwoofers, the CT-150 features built-in Class A/B amplifiers, adjustable crossovers, variable volume and phase controls, and auto on/off signal sensing. The CT-150 features a 15-inch forward-firing driver with a 2-1/2-inch voice coil, both precisely matched to a built-in 250 watt RMS amplifier with 750 watts peak power handling capacity. The CT-150 also incorporates a high-quality integrated crossover, with connections for both speaker and line level inputs and outputs. An adjustable low-pass crossover (40Hz-120 Hz), an adjustable high-pass crossover (80Hz/100Hz), and system gain controls are included. The CT-150 subwoofer employs Velodyne's exclusive Current Sensing Servo system (CSS). According to the company, the CSS measures and monitors the current supplied to the speaker and adjusts the drive signal, reducing distortion up to 50 percent less than conventional drivers. This, they say, improves the accuracy and extension of the frequency response while assuring precise, tight sound not previously available in products at this price point. Velodyne's proprietary Subwoofer Direct switch allows the user to bypass the internal crossover for direct connection to the subwoofer outputs of todayís receivers and surround sound processors. This provides optimum performance when connected to the latest DVD, DTSÆ Digital Suround, DSS, DolbyÆ Digital (AC-3Æ), THXÆ processors, as well as any new home theatre decoder that may be introduced in the near future. The CT-150 is capable of delivering clean, accurate sound from 23Hz to 120Hz. The CT-150 is available immediately in a reinforced, slotted, black vinyl bass-reflex cabinet with black-knit removable grill, and has a suggested retail price of $799.00. At this year's 1999 International Consumer Electronics Show, Velodyneís CT-150 was featured as part of the Innovations Design & Engineering Showcase Honors. In addition to the CT-150, Velodyneís Classic Theater Series of subwoofers includes the 80 watt CT-80; the 100 watt CT-100; and the 120 watt CT-120. The compact and powerful CT-80 features an 8-inch forward-firing driver with a 2-inch voice coil, and built-in 80 watt RMS amplifier with 180 watts peak power handling capacity. The CT-80 incorporates a high-quality integrated crossover with connections for both speaker and line level inputs and outputs. An adjustable low-pass crossover (50Hz-150Hz), fixed passive high-pass crossover (85Hz), and system gain controls are also included. The CT-80 is capable of delivering clean, accurate sound from 35Hz to 140Hz. The Classic Theater CT-100 features a 10-inch forward-firing driver with a 2-inch voice coil, and built in 100 watt RMS amplifier with a peak power handling capability of 250 watts. The CT-100 also incorporates an integrated crossover with connections for both speaker and line level inputs and outputs. An adjustable low-pass crossover (40Hz-120Hz), a fixed high-pass crossover (85Hz), and system gain controls are included. In addition, the CT-100 features Velodyneís Subwoofer Direct switch which allows the user to bypass the internal crossover for direct connection to the subwoofer outputs of todayís receivers and surround sound processors. The CT-100 is capable of delivering clean, accurate sound from 28Hz to 120Hz. Velodyneís Classic Theater CT-120 Subwoofer utilizes a proprietary 12-inch forward-firing driver with a 2-inch voice coil, and built-in 120 watt RMS amplifier with a peak power handling capacity of 270 watts. The CT-120 features an integrated crossover with connections for both speaker and line level inputs and outputs. An adjustable low-pass crossover (40Hz-120Hz), a selectable high-pass crossover (80Hz/100Hz), and system gain controls are included. The CT-120 is capable of delivering clean, accurate sound from 25Hz to 120Hz.
