Sharp Unveils Pure Flat 34-Inch Widescreen HDTV-Ready Television

Stylish New 34-Inch HDTV-Ready TV is Sharpís First Direct View CRT Product In The Digital Maketplace

Sharp Electronics Corporation, an industry leader in digital television technology, unveiled at CES 2000 its first Direct View CRT (cathode ray tube) product in the digital marketplace. The new 34N-WF5H Pure Flat HDTV-Ready TV is a SharpVision-branded set that makes use of Sharpís vast experience in the Direct View CRT marketplace. The set features a 34-inch diagonally measured 16:9 aspect ratio pure flat CRT for the utmost in viewing clarity. With a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, 1080I display resolution and proprietary Digital Double Format Converter (DDFC), the new model delivers outstandingly detailed image reproduction with both high definition and standard video sources. Digital Double Format Converter, Sharpís latest resolution enhancement technology, allows standard video to be viewed at 480P or 1080I, selectable via the remote control. DDFC detects 3:2 pull-down of film-originated material and provides both a super smooth image as well as significant flicker reduction from the original video source. A 10 bit 3D Y/C digital comb filter enhances the pictureís detail by filtering out artifacts inherent in broadcast signals at a rate four times better than conventional filters. This set is equipped with state-of-the-art input terminals for connection to Digital Decoders, as well as high-end video sources such as DVD players and Satellite Receivers. The unit is able to receive 1080i, 480p, or 480i signals from its five inputs. The front inputs include a set of A/V composite inputs and an S-video input. The rear jacks include dual S-video, RGB, Dual Component (one with BNC connectors) and A/V composite inputs. For the true videophile, Sharp has incorporated a color temperature adjustability feature. Four presets allow the fine-tuning of the warmth of reds and blues according to the viewerís particular preference. In addition, the unit provides the viewer with the ability to adjust and set picture controls according to input source. Stylishly designed with a slim casing that reinforces the sleek profile of the widescreen unit, the 34N-WF5H is suitable for any home or office. ""Sharp continues to raise the bar in digital television,"" said Bob Scaglione, Associate Vice President, Marketing, Home Digital Division, Sharp Electronics Corporation. ""Sharpís new HDTV-ready pure flat screen TV offers outstanding picture quality ideal for the most discriminating consumer looking to take advantage of todayís and tomorrowís technologies."" The following are additional features on the 34N-WF5H: Two Tuner Twin Picture: Two NTSC tuners allow you to watch two programs side by side and also functions as a conventional two-tuner picture-in-picture set. Q-Sound: A 4-way speaker system with 24 watts total audio output for dynamic sound. Super Real Picture: Includes Intelligent Gamma Correction to increase contrast in dark areas, Luminance Transient Improvement to reproduce a clear outline, and Chrominance Transient Improvement to improve the edges of images. Optional View Modes: When using a 4:3 source the user can select from one of four viewing modes including a 4:3 display with sidebars. Sharpís 34N-WF5H will be available in March 2000 at the suggested retail price of $4,999.
