Panasonic To Use TeraLogic's Janus HDTV Chip And Technology For Digital TV And Data Broadcasting Services

TeraLogic, Inc., a leading developer of broadband digital television technologies and data services, announced Tuesday that Matsushita Electronic Components Co., Ltd. (MACO) a subsidiary of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (NYSE: MC), which is the world's largest consumer electronics company and best known by the Panasonic brand name, has chosen to integrate TeraLogic's Janus HDTV IC and reference platform into future PC add-in cards. Matsushita's Janus-based DTV PC cards will be marketed by Panasonic Industrial Company, a division of Matsushita Electric Corporation of America (MECA). The cards will permit personal computer users to enjoy superior digital television and data broadcasting services on their PCs. TeraLogic's highly integrated Janus IC and reference platform will enable the company to deploy an enhanced, cost-effective Panasonic Digital TV solution for the PC market. In addition to delivering high definition digital video/audio applications, the Panasonic solution enables data broadcasting services, such as online shopping during a television program and interactive statistics during a sporting event. The Janus IC is the PC industry's first single chip capable of decoding and displaying on a PC all 18 ATSC digital TV formats, including high-definition formats such as 1080i and 720p.
