Velodyne Launches The New HGS Series Of Servo
Velodyne Acoustics, Inc. has announced the introduction of new models to their popular HGS Series of subwoofers. Four models comprise the series: the HGS-10, HGS-12, HGS-15, and HGS-18, with proprietary 10-inch, 12-inch, 15-inch and 18-inch forward firing drivers, respectively. The HGS Series incorporates a unique 3-inch Dual Tandem Coil Design, for higher power handling and low distortion. The announcement was made by Fred Yando, Velodyne Vice President Sales & Marketing. All models in the HGS Series incorporate a built-in Class D amplifier with a patent-pending Energy Recovery Switching Designô, which provides high efficiency for cool operation at high power levels. This transformerless direct-line power switching design yields a powerful 1250 watts RMS, with a peak power rating over 3000 watts. These subwoofers also incorporate Velodyneís patented High Gain Servoô technology, which measures cone movements 3500 times a second to correct for distortion errors. The results, says Yando, are subwoofers with over 3000 watts peak power, which deliver clean, accurate sound from 20Hz120Hz (HGS-10 and HGS-12) or 18Hz-120 Hz (HGS-15 and HGS-18), with total harmonic distortion (THD) specifications of less than 1.0%. All Velodyne HGS Series models operat3 with DolbyÆ Digital (AC-3Æ) and DTSÆ Digital Surround systems, and feature an adjustable subsonic filter (20Hz/35 Hz for the HGS-10 and HGS-12, and 15Hz/35Hz for the HGS-15 and HGS-18) for home theatre equalization. All four models also feature Velodyneís Subwoofer Direct switch for re-configuring for audio or home theatre applications. In addition, all models incorporate high-pass outputs (80Hz/100Hz), enabling integration with larger floor-standing and smaller bookshelf-design loudspeakers. Features also include auto on/off signal sensing, as well as an optional remote control. Velodyne has enhanced the current HGS-10 and HGS-12 models with modifications to the surround on the driver, yielding, says Yando, even higher output levels and reliability. The HGS Series subwoofers are now available in Custom High Gloss Black cabinets.
