Press Release

The 8K Association (8KA), a not-for-profit trade organization composed of key technology and entertainment providers in the consumer and professional markets, will unveil at this year’s CEDIA Expo a multifaceted presentation and communication strategy that promotes the entire 8K technology ecosystem - from content creation and production to distribution, integration and viewing in the home. The Expo will be held from September 4 to 6 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.

The 8K Pavilion is located in booth #4501 and encompasses a 20 x 30-foot space in a high traffic area on the show floor. It includes several exhibits specifically designed to engage and educate visitors about the potential role that 8K technology can play in the new “giant screen" era of more immersive and super-realistic residential entertainment; as well as the opportunities this affords both AV specialty dealers and system integrators.

8K Pavilion Preview

The 8K Pavilion features more than a dozen 8KA member and partner companies, including leading manufacturers like Epson, JVC, Kaleidescape and Samsung.

It also highlights a variety of 8K content via film scanning, film transfers and native films from content creators like IMAX, MGM, Savage Studios and Warner Bros Post Production; along with 8K games, documentaries, sports and upscaled content from AMD, The Explorers, 4BY4 and other providers.

New advancements in 8K processing will also be demonstrated by technology companies like INTEL and Spin Digital; as well as the latest developments in 8K capture, connectivity, and integration from specialists like AstroDesign, AudioQuest, AVPro and BZBGEAR.

According to Juan Reyes, Executive Director of the 8K Association, “Our goal at CEDIA Expo is to showcase how 8K technology provides a more immersive and realistic viewing experience that delivers a powerful “wow” factor that goes far beyond conventional 4K. In short, 8K is the first home entertainment platform that incorporates the latest in AI innovations, making it ideal for the CI channel”.

The 8KA is working with CEDIA Expo producer Emerald to promote this effort through a variety of activities, including an opening day press event; trade ads; email blasts; social media and digital signage in the convention center lobby. The 8KA will also be hosting a series of panel discussions throughout the conference at the 8K Pavilion in booth #4501 (see attached schedule).
Taken as a whole, all of this represents one of the largest multi-industry presentations in CEDIA Expo history.

Building Momentum for 8K

To further evangelize the 8K message, a number of companies have joined the 8K Association this past year including Epson, one of the leaders in home cinema projectors; and Kaleidescape, the most highly regarded video distribution platform in the CI industry.

The 8K Association also maintains a Technical Work Group (TWG) to help advance the education, adoption, and readiness of 8K technology globally.

The TWG serves as the Association’s engineering and specification development arm, in such important areas as technical definitions, test methodologies and certification criteria. Some of their accomplishments include specifications for 8K displays, projectors and most recently set-top boxes; as well as the development of a whitepaper which takes a closer look at the technology, science, content and business strategy behind 8K.

Additionally, during CEDIA Expo, the 8KA will preview a new ACM (Audio Connection for Multi-Devices) option, the specifications of which were finalized and officially approved by the 8KA Board in August. It supports delivery of both compressed and uncompressed audio streams over Wi-Fi from TVs to soundbars and other products.

“Over the past year, the 8KA has continued to work tirelessly to develop and promote all of the key aspects of the 8K ecosystem”, states Bill Mandel, President, 8K Association. “Given the growing interest in AI for use in next generation ‘giant screen’ residential and commercial applications, we’re confident that 8K technology offers an important new business opportunity to AV dealers and custom integrators alike”.
