Pioneer Electronics Introduces Two New Second Generation Digital Television Receivers

Pioneer Electronics, the technology leader in HDTV plasma/PTV, introduced at CES 2000 two new digital television receivers with advanced features such as 720p/1080i selectable output, digital signal strength meter, ATSC 18 Format Digital Tuning, and an 8VSB CATV tuner. To take the guesswork out of setup, both of these new tuners offer digital signal strength meters helping to make sure an aerial antenna is properly aimed. Pioneer has designed both tuners with a look towards the future - including an 8VSB DTV cable tuner, so when digital cable becomes available, the SH-D505 and SH-D09 will be ready. Both models also include an upgrade port for future hardware connections and an internal software upgrade terminal making software upgrades easier than ever. The first of these two new tuners is the SH-D505, is designed to work with any of with any monitor that is capable of receiving an HDTV signal in either 720p or 1080i via RGBHV connection or YPbPr connection. For connection to analog monitors the SH-D505 will down-convert DTV signals to conventional 480I via composite or S-video jacks. A new feature found on the SH-D505 is its ability to output DTV signals in the 720 progressive format. This feature makes the SH-D505 the perfect companion to Pioneerís PDP-505HD plasma display as well as the Pioneer branded SD-532HD5, 582HD5, and 641HD5 rear projection HDTV monitors. The second tuner, the SH-D09, is designed to work exclusively with Pioneer Elite branded HDTV monitors (PRO-710HD, 700HD, 610HD, and 510HD). The SH-D09 is unlike any other tuner being offered today in that is designed to fit inside the television itself, eliminating complicated wiring hookups and allowing seamless integration of the tuner. An optical and coaxial digital output is provided on both tuners supplying either Dolby Digital or PCM information to an outboard receiver. The SH-D505 is available now at a suggested retail price of $2,750. The SH-D09 is available in January at a suggested retail price of $2,500.
