The Little Square Cinema – Exceptional performance in a challenging space

Creating a world-class home cinema in a miniature, perfectly square room is a formidable challenge. For Boca Tech and Automation, the objective was ambitious: deliver a 130-inch screen, seating for four, pristine acoustics, and a clean aesthetic with no visible hanging projector. What began as a conventional system design evolved into a complete re-thinking of the space — culminating in a Steinway & Sons soundbar solution that transformed both performance and room experience.

From constraints to opportunity

The project originally centered on a traditional processor-based system with in-wall speakers, rear subwoofers, and a UST projector housed in a large front cabinet. Although well engineered, this approach reduced the usable space and restricted speaker placement, making the already small room feel even more confined.

A turning point came during CEDIA 2024, where the integrator encountered the clarity and presence of the Steinway & Sons Model S Soundbar on the show floor. Even in a challenging environment, the soundbar delivered exceptional intelligibility and dynamic expression — qualities that define the unmistakable Steinway & Sons sound experience and have helped establish the Model S Soundbar’s reputation as probably the best soundbar in the world. After consulting with Steinway Lyngdorf specialists, the project was fully re-engineered around the soundbar and RoomPerfect™, enabling a far more elegant and spatially efficient solution.

A room transformed

Switching to the Steinway Lyngdorf system unlocked several significant advantages:

• More space: Removing the rear subwoofers and eliminating the large projector cabinet made the room feel noticeably larger.
• Clean aesthetics: The UST projector was discreetly installed in the ceiling, fulfilling the client’s requirement for no visible hanging projector.
• Effortless integration: The soundbar positioned neatly beneath the screen resolved all front-stage speaker placement challenges.
• Acoustical precision: RoomPerfect™ optimized the system for the square room’s difficult acoustics, ensuring clear, immersive, and balanced performance.

A 130-inch screen was installed and adjusted to work seamlessly with the ceiling-mounted projector, while the existing front boundary woofers integrated perfectly into the revised layout.
