Pricing Of Faroudjaís Flagship DVP5000 Digital Video Processor/Scaler Significantly Lower Than Anticipated

Faroudja Laboratories has announced that its new flagship DVP5000 Digital Video Processor/Scaler, introduced at CES 2000 in Las Vegas, will be priced at $25,995 - significantly below the under $30,000 estimate earlier indicated as a goal. One of the hits of the show, with constantly crowded demonstrations, the DVP5000 is the first video processor for home theatres able to automatically upconvert 1080i (interlaced) high-definition signals to 1080p (progressive) resolution. It improves on the best signal HDTV currently offers by removing the interlace stairstepping and motion artifacts present in the 1080i signal, and automatically upconverts 480p signals to 960p, while passing 720p signals through unaltered. All the processing is automatic and transparent to viewers, who can simply surf DTV channels - regardless of the formats used by different broadcasters, just as they would on a conventional TV. The DVP5000 is designed to optimize the performance of high-end 9- and 12-inch CRT projectors as well as fixed-panel displays with resolutions of 1280 x 1024 and above. The processor creates startlingly film-like images from any source.
