Finalists Chosen In The 1999/2000 Aperture Short Film Grant Competition

Aperture Inc. has chosen 11 finalists for its fourth annual $10,000 Aperture Short Film Grant. The Aperture Grant was created in 1996 to fund beginning filmmakers with script proposals for a narrative and/or documentary short film. The winner of the 1999/2000 Aperture Grant will be announced on March 2, 2000, at Kodak Hollywood. The finalists in the 1999/2000 Aperture Grant competition include: Terrance Anthony for ""Shiloís Dead"" (Los Angeles); Matthew Collings for ""The Open Mic"" (Chicago); Christina A. Kotz Cornejo for ""Ocean Waves"" (New York); Hope Frazier for ""Brushy: An Appalachian Canaryís Warning For The World"" (Ojai, CA); Paul Harrill for ""Gina, An Actress, Age 29"" (Knoxville,TN); Inga Kornev for ""Childish"" (San Francisco); Dane Picard for ""The Walter Mitty Condition"" (Los Angeles); Clifford Traiman for ""Broken Up In The Promised Land"" (San Francisco); Julia Wolfe for ""Everyday Heroes Of The Modern Metropolis"" (Chicago). Aperture strives to provide encouragement and practical support for first-time filmmakers, says Aperture Founder and President Leslie Nia Lewis. The grant enables them to produce a short film they can use to sell their project. Eastman Kodak Company, Aperturesí founding sponsor, also provides a $1,000 product grant to filmmakers receiving the Aperture grant. Past winners of the Aperture Short Film Grant include Joshua Marston (""Bus To Queens""), Trace Seretean (""Big Mama""), and Cinque Northern (""Still Waters""). Apertureís board of directors includes writers Leslie Nia Lewis and Eric Taras, editor Glenn Farr, producer Leslie Rabb, and filmmakers Mitchell Block and Tracy Seretean. On Apertureís board of advisors are Joe Berlinger, Charles Burnett, Frank Chindamo, Angela de Joseph, Jim Jarmusch, John Sayles, Bruce Sinofsky and Jesse Weathington.
