IndieDVD And Microcinema Join Forces In DVD Production And Distribution Venture

IndieDVD Inc., an alliance of independent filmmakers and marketers, has entered into a collaborative venture with Microcinema Inc., to license, author and distribute independently produced cinema, animation and video content on DVD. The shared resource agreement will allow both companies to better serve their common mission - to further propel the worldwide independent motion picture and microcinema movement, and create new markets for independent film and video artists. Under the agreement, IndieDVD will serve as a DVD distributor of Microcinema's extensive library, which includes Blackchair Productions' Independent Exposure, the globally acclaimed collection of curated independent video, film, and digital media short subjects. Microcinema, Inc., in turn, will provide production services and facilities, such as encoding for online video streaming, DVD authoring and digital mastering, for IndieDVD's own independent motion picture collections. Microcinema, Inc. is now making these services available to artists and distributors around the world. Microcinema, Inc. and its online complement, microcinema.com, entities recently formed by Blackchair Productions founder and Independent Exposure producer/curator, Joel S. Bachar, will be a powerful Internet micro-portal serving the worldwide industry of independent microcinema artists, producers, promoters, exhibitors, distributors and consumers. The site will provide a unique and entertaining exhibition experience of avant-garde programming and a highly comprehensive catalog of microcinema-oriented information and resources. By distributing selected Microcinema content in the popular DVD format, IndieDVD brings this experience to yet another venue - the home entertainment center. ""The DVD format not only brings the independent film experience into the living room, it creates a platform, when executed well, for an entirely new level of film exploration and entertainment,"" said Microcinema's Bachar. Founded and developed by filmmakers, IndieDVD assembles collections of unique and compelling independent film, animation and video, and distributes the content on DVDs. The company options or purchases limited distribution rights for the properties it features in its collections. Special DVD features and effects that enhance the viewing experience, such as director's commentary, additional camera angles and alternate endings, are included when available and appropriate. There is no cost to the filmmaker for submitting material, and profits from the sale and distribution of IndieDVD collections are shared with the participants. ""While the collaboration of IndieDVD and Microcinema will benefit both our companies substantially, the real winners will be the growing ranks of producers and consumers of independent cinema,"" explained IndieDVD President and co-founder, Jonah E.R. Loeb. ""Our goal in forming the company was to help create a new world market for the independent cinema movement. Now, in our new collaborative relationship with Microcinema, we are even better positioned to deliver on that promise.""
