Oscar-nom hopefuls are being positioned overseas to coincide with the announcement of the contenders as the international market assorted a motley bag of new product over the weekend. ""American Beauty"" appears to be the boxoffice front-runner as it starts out in limited runs before building up the screen count as nomination time nears. Though a sixth-place entry in the United Kingdom over the weekend, the DreamWorks contender came up with an imposing screen average of $30,200 with a take of $695,332 in three days at 23 screens. ""Beauty"" captured first place in Australia with a sizzling $1.9 million in five days at 111 screens and $291,456 in Spain in three days at only 26 screens. Its total weekend tally came to $ 7.1 million at 663 screens in 12 countries.
