The following is a statement from Sony Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer, Nobuyuki Idei, in response to recent speculation in the press about Sony's entertainment businesses: ""There has been much unfounded speculation in the press in recent weeks about Sony's plans for its entertainment assets. We want to be very clear in stating that our entertainment businesses, Sony Music Entertainment and Sony Pictures Entertainment, are not for sale. Sony intends to be a broadband entertainment company in the 21st century and, in that regard, it is more important than ever that Sony maintain control of its content. We are flattered that so many outside of our company recognize the quality and value of our businesses, and we will continue to maintain an open dialogue with colleagues and competitors around the world. However, that does not mean that we intend to lessen our control over these businesses, as they are a cornerstone in our overall strategy.""
