Raising the bar for moderately-priced home entertainment solutions at the 2000 International Consumer Electronics Show, Kenwood USA Corp. introduced the VR-410 Dolby Digital/DTS receiver with its new radio frequency (RF) remote control that operates an entire system from virtually any room in the house. When used with compatible Kenwood 200-disc CD changers, disc titles can also be downloaded and viewed on the remoteís LCD screen. Five DSP modes allow listeners to adjust the sound from up to 225 different possible settings to simulate different listening room dimensions, wall thickness and other variables. The VR-410 will be available in April for a suggested retail price of $499.""Until now, the features and convenience of the VR-410ís remote control were only available in receivers costing more than many people were willing to spend on a home audio component,"" said Joe Richter, Kenwood President. ""Add to that Dolby Digital, DTS Digital Surround, so many DSP modes, S-video connections and rich aesthetics, and the VR-410 becomes an outstanding buy for a serious home entertainment system on a budget.""Itís All About ControlThe remote controlís RF link to the system does not need to be aimed at the receiver to operate the entertainment system. In addition, RF signals can travel through walls, allowing the remote to control each component, such as a CD player, cassette deck, TV and DVD player, etc., from any room in the home. The remoteís LCD screen uses 36 characters plus icons to guide users in programming the remote, setting up the receiver for surround sound, and operating connected components. In addition to its RF signals, the remote also sends-out IR signals that can control other system components in the same room by ""line-of-sight."" For controlling components from other rooms, the receiver has outputs that allow the connection of IR emitters, which relay the remoteís RF commands to the components. The remoteís RF feature allows more audio options for a set of ""B"" speakers placed in a second room. If listeners in the second room wish to change the radio station or CD currently playing, or lower the systemís volume, this can be done without having to leave the room. When the receiver is used with a Kenwood 200-disc CD changer, like the CD-425M, the disc and song titles are viewable on the remoteís LCD screen, and can be selected by title. The remote can also be used to program up to three macros that allow users to initiate a sequence of events that configures the system and plays music or movies at the touch of a button. The receiver employs Kenwoodís exclusive KAM-1 amplifier design that offers improved sound quality and reliability by doubling the receiverís power efficiency while reducing the interference often present in conventional amplifier circuits. The benefits of KAM-1 technology are particularly apparent when viewing movies with bass-heavy explosions or effects. The VR-410 is a full-function home theater receiver, equipped with:- 6 analog audio inputs/3 analog audio outputs- 2 optical and 2 coaxial digital inputs and 1 optical digital output- A 6-channel analog input that is compatible with DVD-audio players- 4 composite and 4 S-video inputs- 1 composite and 1 S-video record output- 1 composite and 1 S-video monitor output- Left/Center/Right/Lsurround/Rsurround and Subwoofer pre-amp outputs- Banana compatible speaker connectors for left, center and right channelsThe VR-410 will be available in April for a suggested retail price of $499.About KenwoodFounded in 1961, Kenwood USA Corporation is the largest audio specialty company in the United States.
