Zenith Commends FCC For Staying The Course On DTV

Decision Will Keep DTV Progress On Track

Zenith Electronics Corporation applauded the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) unanimous decision reaffirming the 8-VSB digital television broadcast standard. The FCC has dismissed a petition filed by Sinclair Broadcasting to reopen the DTV standard. Zenith President and CEO Ian Woods said, ""By properly rejecting Sinclair's petition to turn the clock back on the FCC-mandated DTV transition, the Commission has put customers first. Zenith welcomes the biennial review and looks forward to working with broadcasters and manufacturers to continue rapid improvements in VSB-based products."" With the 8-VSB transmission standard firmly established as the American standard, the transition to digital television can continue unabated. Today, more than 100 television stations are already airing digital programming, covering over 60 percent of the possible viewing audience in America. Additionally, more than 600,000 DTV products are expected to be sold in the U.S. this year according to the Consumer Electronics Association.
