Russound, a leading manufacturer of audio components for custom installation applications, has introduced the first two models of its new line of loudspeakers that are suitable for use inside the home or outdoors. Called ìOutback,î the new line features a cabinet constructed of a low-resonance polypropylene, rugged enough to withstand extremes of weather and handsomely styled to be at home in the living room. The first two models, OB-5 and OB-4, will be available in the first quarter of 2000.Recognizing that the acoustic needs of indoor and outdoor speakers also differ, Russound has incorporated a bass-boost switch for outdoor applications. The boost compensates for the loss of bass in open spaces. In addition, speakers provide protection circuitry so that they do not go into overdrive in outdoors applications. In line with the rugged cabinet, Russound has also incorporated high quality and durable brass, stainless steel and aluminum hardware and Gold-Plated Binding Posts. The OB-5 is a two-way speaker system utilizing a 5-1/2-inch long-throw woofer and 1/2-inch polymide inverted dome tweeter. It can handle up to 250 watts, RMS, and has a frequency range of 85 to 20,000Hz. The OB-5 measures 7-1/8-inch (W) x 9-7/8-inch (H) x 5-3/4-inch (D).The more diminutive OB-4 is also a two-way speaker system that delivers a big sound. It utilizes a 4-inch long throw woofer and X-inch dome tweeter. It can handle up to 200 watts and measures 5-5/8-inch (W) x 8-inch (H) x 4-7/8-inch (D).The Russound OB-5 has a suggested retail price of $249 per pair and the OB-4 has a suggested retail price of $199 per pair.
