Proton Corporation, a leader in the design and manufacture of high-end, high-performance video and audio products, introduced the new PDV- 2001 Progressive 480p DVD Player at the 2000 International Consumer Electronics Show (ICES) in Las Vegas, Nevada. The PDV-2001 was honored with an ICES Innovations 2000 Design & Engineering Award in the home theatre category. The Proton PDV-2001 Progressive 480p DVD Player was designed for home theatre applications to deliver crisp, progressive, digitally scaled images that recreate cinema quality pictures of the highest caliber. The PDV-2001ís built-in progressive scan circuits process any external NTSC 480i input video source (DVD, DSS, LD, VHS, etc.) to 480p DTV-class resolution. The circuitry doubles the scanning lines with greater detail, true color rendition, and is artifact-free with a full 10-bit/27MHz process to provide the viewer with HDTV-quality pictures. Unlike the NTSC interlace scanning, the PDV-2001 utilizes an advanced, reversed ""3-2 pull down"" algorithm for restoring the original cinemaís glory. The PDV-2001 has an auto-detect and auto-switch film/video mode. The Proton PDV-2001 offers color difference output (Y/B-Y/R-Y) mapping the DVD (YCrCb) format. DolbyÆ Digital/DTSÆ compatible digital outputs (one coax, one optical) are provided. The PDV-2001 also features Preset Picture modes (Cinema, Video, User), Advanced Picture Adjustment (Color, Tint, Contrast, Brightness, Sharpness), 4x Picture Zoom and on-screen menu. The player has true 75 ohm gold-plated BNC connectors for all the video outputs with a dedicated switching regulator for the video circuitry.A full-feature remote control with on-screen programming makes operation of the PDV-2001 a pleasure. The Proton PDV-2001 Progressive 480p DVD Player measures 16-1/2 inches wide, 5 inches high and 14-1/2 inches deep, and has a suggested retail price of $1,200.
