Canon Europa, a leader in optics and digital imaging technology, is now offering English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish versions of Digital Origin's IntroDV desktop digital video (DV) editing product throughout Europe. The announcement broadens Digital Origin's relationship with Canon, adding the multiple-language versions of IntroDV for home video editing and streaming to the Web, to the distribution agreement, which also includes Digital Origin's EditDV product line for more advanced non-linear DV editing; RotoDV for video painting and special effects; PhotoDV for still image capture and manipulation; and MotoDV for motion video capture and connecting PCs to DV camcorders. ""This extension of our resale agreement with Canon opens a whole new world of DV editing simplicity for European camcorder owners eager to make great movies while learning the basics of real video production,"" said Mark Housley, Digital Origin's Chairman and CEO. ""We're heartened by the acceptance shown by our partnering with Canon. It's clear that our solutions broaden access to powerful, creative, and affordable video editing technology,"" he said. Shozo Yamaguchi, General Manager of Canon Europa's Camera Products Division, also hailed the agreement. ""Making IntroDV available throughout Europe is good news for the camcorder user and it strengthens Canon's position as a complete DV solutions provider,"" he said. Canon and Digital Origin reached an agreement last year enabling Canon camcorder retailers in Europe to stock the full line of video editing products from Digital Origin. It, in effect, enabled one-stop shopping for consumers interested in digital video. IntroDV, which began shipping in the U.S. last October, is designed specifically for consumers new to video editing and the DV format. IntroDV lets Windows 95/98 users easily connect their DV camcorders to their computers and transform their video footage into professional-looking movies than can be posted on the Web, distributed via e-mail, or saved to tape or CD-ROM. Since IntroDV is designed for the DV format, the pristine quality of the video is preserved. No analog conversion is required, thus eliminating the grainy, fuzzy side effects common with other video editing systems. IntroDV users can easily connect their DV camcorder to their PC with a single cable (cable and interface card included). Controlling the camcorder using a keyboard and mouse, users can preview the original video and capture the desired footage. They can then refine it using basic editing techniques like arranging clips on a storyboard, creating transitions, adding music or narration, and making titles and credits. Projects can be viewed on an LCD or TV monitor and, when complete, saved to tape or CD-ROM or made into a movie that can be sent via e-mail, posted to the Web, or used in a slide presentation.
