THIEL Audio Announces New PowerPointô Surface Mount High Performance Loudspeaker

US loudspeaker manufacturer, THIEL Audio, announces their newest Coherent Source loudspeaker, the PowerPointô, a high performance surface-mount speaker designed to help the listener create the optimum sound environment in their room. The new PowerPoint can be placed on walls, ceilings, in cabinets-on any flat surface-for very realistic sound reproduction in home video and music sound systems. The PowerPoint's combination of coaxial/coplanar drivers and wedge shaped enclosure allows the user greater control over the sound coverage in their room, enabling them to create the sound environment of their choice. The PowerPoint's suggested retail price is $1300 each. Usability Without Compromising Performance ""The PowerPoint brings a new level of performance to a category that usually compromises sonic performance for usability,"" says THIEL President Kathy Gornik. ""The PowerPoint uses the same high performance drivers we design and build for our award-winning line of floor-standing and shelf speakers."" The two-way PowerPoint's coaxial/coplanar 6.5-inch woofer and 1-inch dome tweeter use THIEL's innovative short coil/long gap motor system for extremely low distortion and both use aluminum diaphragms for outstanding tonal response. The tweeter is the same unit as used in THIEL's flagship model, the $13,500 CS7.2. As with all THIEL loudspeakers, the PowerPoint utilizes a synthesized first-order crossover system to eliminate phase distortion. More Realistic Soundfield Conventional on-wall speakersí coverage area leaves some users outside the optimum listening area. The PowerPoint can be mounted either vertically or horizontally to cover a very wide area, maximizing performance throughout the room and for a variety of listening positions. The unique design of the PowerPoint also offers particularly great advantages for ceiling applications, allowing much greater coverage than conventional in-wall or on-wall designs. The coaxial/coplanar design of the PowerPoint drivers provides proper time performance regardless of listener position or speaker mounting location for greater clarity and spatial performance. ""The PowerPoint's monopole design also creates a more realistic sound field for the listener by accurately reproducing the spatial information on the soundtrack, rather than the diffuse, inaccurate reproduction of bipole designs,"" says Designer Jim Thiel. Used Throughout The Home PowerPoints can be used as front, center, or rear-channel speakers in home video and music systems. They can also be used alone or in pairs throughout the home in bedrooms, kitchens, and offices for outstanding sound everywhere. Its unique rounded architectural design integrates well with a variety of decors. Specifications include a frequency response of ±3dB from 75Hz to 20kHz, a sensitivity of 89dB@2.8V-1m, phase response within ±10 degrees of minimum, and a 4 ohm nominal impedance. Horizontally oriented, the cabinet's dimensions are 20 inches wide, 5.5 inches deep, and 12 inches high.
