JVC To Expand DVD Production

JVC Disc America will be increasing production of DVDs at its Sacramento, California-area plant, doubling the size of the facility to accommodate demand for the rapidly growing DVD market. While the DVD format represents a small percentage of all manufacturing at the facility - which until now has primarily focused on creating CDs and CD-ROMs - the expansion will be devoted solely to DVD production. JVC began manufacturing DVDs on a small scale in 1997 and in the past year has grown to 15 percent of total production. At capacity, the plant will be able to turn out 1.7 million DVDs a month.
