Revel Announces The Release Of The F30 And M20, First In Their New Series Of Performa Loudspeakers

The F30 is a full-range, floor-standing, three-way design, priced at retail US $3,500/pair. The M20 is a two-way monitor, US retail $2,000/pair (with optional stand, US $200/pair). ""Performa series loudspeakers are designed to offer much of the performance of Revelís flagship Ultima series, but at more moderate prices,"" said Phil Muzio, CEO or Revelís parent company Madrigal. ""By achieving Revel performance goals at the lowest price ever, we expect the Performa series to expand the appeal of the line to a larger audience of audio specialists and their enthusiast customers."" The Performa F30 and M20 use custom-designed transducers to achieve many performance goals, including low distortion, low dynamic compression, timbral accuracy and superior off-axis response. The crossover design employs independent filters to achieve a fourth order acoustic response, maintaining coherent phase for all drivers and enabling high power handling capability. ""Laser interferometers, both two and four pi anechoic chambers and Harmanís unique MLL (Multichannel Listening Lab) were some of the tools used to develop transducers, crossover and cabinet designs,"" said Kevin Voecks, Director of Research and Technology for Revel. ""Itís ironic that the companies trying to produce the most high-end loudspeakers usually have the most limited resources when it comes to modern measurement technology. Revel is fortunate to have access to some of the most advanced measurement tools and techniques in the world."" According to Madrigal, the Revel design team used proprietary measurement methods to guide in both the specification and design of their loudspeakers. One measurement, called ""in-room response,"" is said to closely correlate to perceived sound quality. This, along with a ""first-reflections response"" and an ""in-room response relative to target response"" curve take into account the sonic consequences of the loudspeakerís placement within a room. Even low frequency extension is measured in a more meaningful way than is typical. A -10dB measurement is used to more accurately describe the rate at which low frequencies roll off in the deep bass region. The Performa series will grow to include an entire theater system, consisting of a C30 (three-way center channel), a B15 (15-inch) powered subwoofer and S30 (three-way, direct/dipole surrounds), to be available by the end of the first quarter 2000. ""We are thrilled with what the Revel design team has achieved and expect a great deal of enthusiasm to build around these exciting new products,"" said Mark Glazier, President of Madrigal. ""The Performa series models offer exceptional value, as the first dealers who have heard them will attest. The Revel system reminds us all why we love this business.""
