AES Convention To Be ""Surrounded By Sound""

Reaffirming the opinion that multichannel recording is no passing fad, the 109th Audio Engineering Society (AES) Convention this fall 2000 will be themed ""Surrounded By Sound."" The event will take place September 22-25, 2000 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Roger Furness, Executive Director of AES, recently announced the event's theme and committee and chair members. Said Furness, ""5.1 surround recording techniques have made a dramatic impact on our industry, The committee's decision to focus on this significant development for our AES 109th Convention theme, 'Surrounded By Sound,' is particularly timely."" ""We are confident it will be of substantial interest to our attendees,"" he added. AES Convention Committees are comprised of industry professionals. This effort is supported by a professional AES management team led by Furness and Chris Plunkett, Director of Convention Management. Roy Pritts and Ron Streicher are Convention Co-Chairs, Marshall Buck and Eric Benjamin are the Papers Co-Chairs and Van Webster and Valerie Tyler are the Workshop Co-Chairs. Richard Burden is the Technical Tours Chair, Annemarie Staepelaere is the Special Events Chair, Keith Seppanen is the Education Activities Chair and Julie Middleburg and Joe Alexander are the Student Coordinator Co-Chairs. George Biner (Cirrus Logic) and David Scally (Disney) are Party Co-Chairs and Garry Margolis is Facilities Chair. Public Relations Co-Chairs are Judy Bennett (graphics) and Howard Sherman (publicity), Rico Macalma is Signage Coordinator, Richard Sanders is Secretary and David Josephson is Standards Committee Liaison
