Faroudja Highlights RP5800 HDTV/Computer Capabilities At NAB
NAB, Las Vegas, April 19, 1999 - Faroudja, Inc., at the annual convention of the National Association of Broadcasters in Las Vegas this week, is demonstrating its award-winning, top-of-the-line HDTV-capable RP5800 Multimedia Rear Projection System, which offers superb performance and flexibility. The RP5800 is a complete performance package that can be easily integrated into any home theatre, and takes full advantage of HDTV and any interlaced 15.75kHz-video source. It is ideal for system designers who desire the high-performance, film-like images Faroudja technology can provide, but do not want or are unable to use two-piece projection systems, either front or rear configured, due to such conditions as high ambient light levels, rooms that limit projector installation, or the desire to have a theatre installed immediately. Using a high bandwidth multiscan projector engine, the RP5800 can display any of the HDTV formats (480p, 720p, 1080I and 1080p images) at the native scan rate. In addition, computer resolutions up to 1280xx1024 progressive can be displayed. The RP5800ís signal processing handles 75MHz bandwidth (1080I HDTV requires 30MHz), and stores up to 32 scan rates. Up to eight aspect ratios can be stored for each scan rate. An Auto-Iris CCD camera system is built ñin to improve screen set-up and maintain accurate red, green and blue convergence. The optics provide accurate corner-to-corner focus with liquid-coupled lenses, a front-service mirror and a dual-element Black Stripe screen. A key component in the RP5800 is the inclusion of Faroudjaís award-winning VP250 line processor circuitry. All interlaced NTSC- and PAL-based sources are upconverted to 480p or 580p using Faroudjaís Picture Plusô technology to produce an image that resembles 35mm film in color detail and dramatic impact. The RP5800 recently received a Golden Note Award for Best One-Piece Rear Projection System by the Academy Advancing High Performance Audio & Video.
