""Turn That Down!"" Measure Adopted For Movie Trailers

The National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and the Trailer Audio Standards Association (TASA) has announced the development of a standard to limit the audio level of trailers and help maintain parity between trailer volume and feature volume. All the major studios, NATO and the MPAA have endorsed the trailer audio volume limit, specified in ""The TASA Standard."" The studios and audio engineers from Dolby, DTS, SDDS and TMH Corporation developed the standard. Ioan Allen of Dolby Laboratories and Tomlinson Holman of TMH were the primary authors of the new standard, which will be phased in as a series of stepped volume reductions over a period of time. The MPAA will incorporate the TASA Standard into its advertising regulations. TASA expects significant results to be notices within the first year. A full report on the standard will be published shortly on the Widescreen Review Webzine.
