DVD-Player Price Erosion Is Expected At CES

With DVD-Video player prices plummeting DVD is already a mature market. In less than two years price points have gone from $500 to $299. Several industry insiders think that still lower prices for DVD-Video players will be announced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), because the $299 price point is ubiquitous. Expect new features, such as DTS Digital Surround, and Divx, to proliferate, though just how much value a new feature is worth will be the interesting part of the pricing of new DVD-Video models. With Dolby Digital receivers, the price has droped even more quickly. At CES Dolby Digital receivers are expected to be announced at a $400 price point.
