Pioneer Electronics Reinforces Commitment To High Definition Television New Pioneer Branded HDTV In 16:9 (1.78:1) Widescreen

Pioneer Electronics has introduced their first Pioneer-branded HDTV-capable rear projection television- the 64-inch diagonal, 16:9 (1.78:1) aspect ratio SD-641HD5. ""Pioneer is committed to the advanced home theatre format, and, as a company, we feel that the 16:9 format is clearly the best way to represent the true home theatre experience,"" says Matt Dever, Vice President, Marketing and Product Planning. ""Additionally, since HDTV will dramatically improve the broadcast signal, we can give the consumer the flexibility of upgrading to the digital format when they or their area is ready."" To provide the best high-definition picture quality possible, Pioneer says the SD-641HD5 boasts a maximum resolution ability of 1920 x 1080i. Pioneerís exclusive Automatic Format Converter is said to enhance conventional NTSC sources by converting them to a progressive format. The result is an image free of scanning lines and an image that is more detailed and natural looking. When consumers are ready to upgrade their SD-641HD5 to full HDTV resolution, simply connect an optional HDTV tuner like the SH-D500 to either set of component inputs on the back of the set. The component inputs on the SD-641HD5 will also accept a variety of scanning rate, 15.75kHz, 31.5kHz, and 33.75kHz. A new multi-language (English, Spanish, and French) on-screen menu system makes for easy system setup and adjustment. Other video features of the SD-641HD5 include: - Dual NTSC tuners with Picture-in-Picture, Split-Screen displays, and 3 or 9 multichannel display - Auto Sensing Progressive/Component Inputs - 9-point digital convergence for easy geometry adjustments - Adjustable 3-Dimensional Comb Filter (5 Levels) - Adjustable 3-Dimensional Noise Reduction (5 Levels) - Color Noise Reduction (On or Off) - Auto Flesh-Tone for non-31.5Khz sources to provide accurate fleshtones from over-the-air broadcasts - .52mm Super Fine Pitch Screen for razor-sharp image reproduction - Auto Screen Mode, which automatically senses the incoming signal and chooses the correct screen mode. The SD-641HD5 is available in June at a suggested retail price of $6,999.00.
