On January 7, 1999, Universal Studios Home Video announced that it will introduce 20 DVD titles featuring DTSÆ audio in the first half of 1999. The first four titles, Danteís Peak, Waterworld, Liar Liar, and Daylight were released on January 5 for $34.98 suggested retail each.The DTS versions of Babe, The Shadow, The Little Rascals and The River Wild, will be released on February 23 and 12 Monkeys, Apollo 13, The Nutty Professor, and The Flintstones will debut on March 16, all for $34.98 SRP each.Other titles tentatively planned for release in the second quarter include The Getaway, Happy Gilmore, Dragonheart, The Jackal, The Frighteners, Born On The Fourth Of July, The Boxer, For Richer Or Poorer, Blues Brothers 2000, and Primary Colors. ìBy providing DTS audio as an option for consumers, this greatly enhances our DVD product line and augments our profile in the marketplace,î stated Bill Clark, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Universal Studios Home Video.ìThere are tens of thousands of home theatre enthusiasts who have been patiently awaiting this moment, and we are proud to say that DTS DVDís are finally here,î said Dan Slusser, Vice Chairman and CEO of DTS. ìWeíre very pleased with Universalís support and look forward to additional releases throughout the entire year.DTS Digital Surround playback requires the use of a DTS compliant DVD player, a DTS decoder and discrete multi channel amplification.
