Microvision DVD Copy Protection Program Licensed To 100 DVD Manufacturers

Macrovision Corporation has announced that its DVD analog coy protection technology has now been licensed to 100 DVD manufacturers of DVD-Video and DVD-ROM hardware worldwide. Some of the recent PC companies and DVD player manufacturers to license the DVD technology include Dell Computer Corporation, CompUSA, Dual Technoogy Corporation and Funai Electric. Microvisionís DVD copy protection technology is included in DVD-Video players and DVD-ROM drives as part of an integrated circuit which converts the digital video from the disc to the analog signal required by standard television sets. Macrovisionís DVD copy protection is designed to prevent unauthorized copying of DVD programming to VCRs without impacting the original picture. It is now used on most DVDs being release and is the only technology of its kind that is currently available to protect against unauthorized copying to VCRs. DVD copy protection was introduced in 1997 and has been utilize on over 75 percent of all DVDs produced in the past year - more than 20 million DVDs in total.
