Consumer choice in DVD movie selection will grow five times more exciting this fall when Thomson Consumer Electronics introduces the RCA brand RC5910P DVD-Video player with five-disc changer. The RC5910P will give movie enthusiasts the opportunity to view up to five consecutive full-length films without changing a single disc.Along with the RC5910P, the company recently added the RCA RC5220P (suggested retail price $399) to the DVD family. The RC5220P delivers Dolby Digital Æ and DTSÆ Digital Surround audio capability. ""We feel the RC5910P is the ultimate in consumer choice for theatre-quality home entertainment,"" said Thomson's Larry McKinney, Vice President, Worldwide DVD Product Management. ""Not only does it offer all the versatility of a traditional DVD player, it gives the user the option to mix movie discs with favorite audio CDs or music video discs to create hours of uninterrupted personalized entertainment.""In addition to playing all DVD and CD formats, the RC5910P offers the option of connecting the DVD-Video player to an external Dolby Digital or DTS receiver via an optical or coaxial digital output to achieve a six-channel home theatre experience. The RC5910P is loaded with performance features including a fully interactive front panel display for easy access to operating functions; jog/shuttle dial control with automatic track selection for CDs; 4-speed smooth forward and reverse scan modes; four slow motion forward and reverse modes; and full function front panel navigation controls when the remote is not being used. The remote control is a universal model that operates up to six different products; a learning remote, it can operate competitive brands as well as RCA products. The basic RCS220P player features distortion-free special effects; 4:3 (1.33:1), 4:3 with letterbox, and 16:9 (1.78:1) picture formats (with specially encoded discs); and plays digital video discs as well as audio CDs. The remote control accesses both DVD and TV functions. The greater storage capacity of DVD discs allows the addition of innovative features such as Parental Rating Control, enabling the viewer to choose preferred language, subtitles, and ratings limits of movies when encoded by studios. Additional features include Subtitle and Multi-Language capability that supports up to eight different audio languages, 32 different subtitle tracks, and closed captioning. Special Effects include Picture Search, Freeze Frame, Slow Motion, and Frame Advance, all with exceptionally clean and clear picture detail. Multiple Aspect Ratio capability is also available, permitting the user to switch between standard 4:3 and widescreen 16:9 picture formats on encoded discs.
