RCA Brand Teams With Ken Craneís Superstore And NexFlix.Com In DVD Promotion With Free Movie Discs, Free Disc Rentals For Purchasers Of RCA DVD-Video Players

Consumers who purchase select RCA brand DVD-Video players during the June/July/August sales period will have the opportunity to add a bonus of five free DVD movie discs and 12 free DVD software rentals. The announcement was by Thomson Consumer Electronics, Inc. manufacturer and marketer of the RCA, ProScan, and GE brands of consumer electronics products. According to Thomsonís Larry McKinney, Vice President, Worldwide DVD Product Management, the RCA brand is teaming up with Ken Craneís DVD & LaserDisc Superstore, a division of Image Entertainment, Inc., an on-line and mail order retailer, and NetFlix.Com, an on-line DVD rental network, for the consumer offer which will be launched June 1 and will extend through August 16, 1999. ""This is an excellent opportunity for consumers to acquire a cutting edge home entertainment product while expanding their personal film library with popular movie titles,"" said McKinney. The picture performance and audio capability of RCA DVD players is unmatched, and the savings on purchasing or renting movies is incredible."" Ken Crane officials estimate the value of the five free disc offer to be approximately $125, while the 12 free rentals to new customers of NetFlix.Com is valued in excess of $40. The Ken Crane promotion includes an opportunity for consumers to take advantage of an offer for additional titles at 30 percent below retail prices. During the promotion, purchasers of RCA RC5220P and the Divx enhanced RC5231Z DVD players will receive details on the promotion from inserts placed in player packaging. Retailers participating in the promotion include Circuit City, Walmart, Target, Kmart, The Good Guys, Dow Stereo, and Ultimate Electronics. For the Ken Crane offer, consumers can select five movies from a list of 36 available titles including ""The Terminator"" and ""Bull Durham,"" hit music DVDs such as ""The Eagles: Hell Freezes Over"" and ""Bee Gees: One Night Only"" along with ""Super Speedway"" and other special interest programming. Consumers who take advantage of the NetFlix.Com promotion can select their 12 free rentals from a library of over 3,200 titles, or virtually any DVD movie currently available. The offer is good for 30 days from the initial redemption, and multiple orders are acceptable during that period. NetFlix.Com is the nationís first and largest on-line DVD rental store.
