Pioneer Abandons The 1.33:1 (4:3) Projector Business

Pioneer Electronics has abandoned the 133:1 (4:3) rear-screen projector business to concentrate on widescreen 1.78:1 (16:9) rear-screen projection and widescreen plasma sets. Pioneerís 1999 Elite Advance Home Theatre Systems feature the new Pro-700HD 64-inch High-Definition Projection Television. The rear-screen projection set is upgradable to receive and display HDTV signals at 1920x1080 interlaced with the SH-D07 Tuner installed in its tuner expansion slot. As for regular television signals, Pioneerís Automatic Format Converter enhances interlaced NTSC signals (15.75 kHz scan rate) to 480 progressive lines (31.75 kHz scan rate).Every receiver in the Pioneer Elite line features both DolbyÆ Digital and DTSÆ Digital Surround decoding. The top-of-the-line VSX-29TX is Pioneerís reference THXÆ Ultra Certified Receiver, followed by the VSX-27TX THX Ultra Certified Receiver, the VSX-26TX THX Ultra Certified Receiver, the VSX-24TX THX Select Certified Receiver and the entry model VSX-21 Receiver.Pioneerís Elite DVD-Video Players remain in the line. The DV-09 is the Elite Reference THX Ultra Certified DVD/CD Player. As well there is the DV-05 THX Ultra Certified and the DVL-91 Reference DVD/LD Combination Player.Pioneer Elite line also features an impressive line of speaker systems designed by a well respected American team of loudspeaker designers. The line features the TZ-F700 Reference Standard Front Tower Speakers, the TZ-C700 Reference Center Channel Speaker, the TZ-S700 Reference Surround Speaker and TZ-SW05 10-inch Powered Subwoofer.Pioneerís standard line features the new SD-641HDS 64-inch widescreen 1.78:1 high-definition monitor that is capable of displaying 1920x180 interlaced when combined with the SH-D07 HDTV Tuner. There are four new DVD-Video players in the line. They are the DV-626D, the DV-525, the DVC-302D, a 3 DVD or CD changer, and the DVX-1000, a Divx-featured DVD player. Also new is the PDV-LC10, a portable DVD/CD player with a 7-inch widescreen 1.78:1 Active Matrix LCD screen and 135-minute Ni-Mh: Nickel Hydride Battery. The PDV-LC10 has the industryís largest 16:9 LCD screen.
